{"id":562,"date":"2019-04-28T20:17:49","date_gmt":"2019-04-29T01:17:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/?p=562"},"modified":"2019-08-18T19:14:46","modified_gmt":"2019-08-19T00:14:46","slug":"lesson-49-ecclesiastes-1-8-the-vanity-of-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/index.php\/2019\/04\/28\/lesson-49-ecclesiastes-1-8-the-vanity-of-man\/","title":{"rendered":"Lesson 10 (Lesson 49):  Ecclesiastes 1-8:  The Vanity of Man"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Key Verse:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cFor what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?\u201d\u00a0 <strong>Mark 8:36<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Read the Key Verse with your class.\u00a0 Ask your students if they have ever desired the things of this world (everybody does \u2013 that\u2019s part of our nature).\u00a0 Is it OK to want stuff, here on this world? (Of course.)\u00a0 The important thing is to not desire things more than pleasing God, and to do what is right according to God\u2019s Word.\u00a0 Should you lie, cheat, or steal to get something? (No.)\u00a0 Should you want what \u201ceverybody\u201d else has? (Not if it doesn\u2019t please God.)\u00a0 Because we live on this earth, we have to have \u201cthings\u201d to live.\u00a0 But, we have to be content with the things God gives us, and not make \u201cthings\u201d as our primary focus.\u00a0 Ask your students if they remember what is to be our \u201cfocus\u201d (what we have our eyes set upon \u2013 Jesus).\u00a0 We must be careful to not allow the desire for \u201cthe whole world\u201d (see memory verse) to keep us from serving and pleasing God.\u00a0 See as King Solomon learned this lesson as we begin Ecclesiastes today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary:<\/strong>\u00a0 Today we begin the fourth of the Personal books, Ecclesiastes.\u00a0 We will take two weeks to study the book.\u00a0 The word, Ecclesiastes, means \u201cthe Preacher.\u201d\u00a0 Ecclesiastes was written by King Solomon, the man who had it all \u2013 riches, fame, rich heritage, a personal relationship with God, and wisdom beyond measure.\u00a0 Yet with all of that, he found that all of life is \u201cvanity and vexation.\u201d (<strong>vanity<\/strong>:\u00a0 <em>any thing that is futile, or worthless<\/em>.\u00a0 <strong>vexation<\/strong>:\u00a0 <em>something that disturbs or annoys; to trouble seriously<\/em>.)\u00a0 He repeats that phrase 7 times in Ecclesiastes.\u00a0 Ecclesiastes 1:14:\u00a0 \u201cI have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all <em>is<\/em> vanity (emptiness, something unsatisfactory) and vexation of spirit.\u201d \u00a0Solomon had not learned how to restrain his desires and that was the cause of all of his \u201cvanity and vexation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Watch as King Solomon recognized the fool he had become in turning from God.\u00a0 See as Solomon set about to prove he could be happy in this world, but ended up proving the worth of the wisdom from God. He also learned to be careful in his worship of God.\u00a0 Finally, today, we see that man cannot understand God, we just have to fear him.\u00a0 In doing this, we can know him.<\/p>\n<p>Even with all of his wisdom, Solomon did not have all of the answers of life.\u00a0 He wrote this book from a worldly man\u2019s point of view.\u00a0 He tried to make sense of life apart from God, yet couldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Encourage your students to bring their Bibles and use them!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emphasis:\u00a0 <\/strong>Man cannot be satisfied with the things of the world.\u00a0 He must seek God, and wisdom from God.\u00a0 We cannot understand God, but \u201cfear of the LORD <em>is<\/em> the beginning of knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Optional Worksheets to be downloaded:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Lesson-49-Volume-1-Childrens-Worksheet-1.pdf\">Lesson 49 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Worksheet 1<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Lesson-49-Volume-1-Childrens-Reinforcement-Worksheet.pdf\">Lesson 49 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Reinforcement Worksheet<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ideas for children:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stickers always work well with children.
