Ye cannot serve God and mammon.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0<strong>Matthew 6:24<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Read the Key Verse with your class.\u00a0 Ask your students if they remember the first 3 of the Ten Commandments.\u00a0 (Exodus 20:3-5:\u00a0 \u201c3. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image &#8230; 5. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them &#8230;\u201d\u00a0 Read today\u2019s memory verse together with your class.\u00a0 Help them understand this verse using the following definitions:<\/p>\n<p><strong>serve:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>obey; serve in bondage\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>hold:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>to hold firmly, cleave to<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>despise:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>to neglect or not care for<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>mammon:<\/strong> <em>all kinds of possessions; the god of materialism<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today we will look at the life of Solomon.\u00a0 We see what happens when he turns from serving the one true God to allowing idol worship to come into his life.\u00a0 He could not serve both.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary:<\/strong>\u00a0 I Kings begins with King David\u2019s death and his son, Solomon, taking the throne.\u00a0 David had encouraged his son to walk with God and obey His commands.\u00a0 Solomon obeyed his father, David, and the kingdom was established.\u00a0 God then came to Solomon himself, asking what he desired.\u00a0 Solomon asked for wisdom and God gave it to him, along with riches and fame.\u00a0 God, too, told Solomon to obey His commands and walk in God\u2019s ways, and God would bless his kingdom as He had promised David.<\/p>\n<p>Solomon was allowed to build the temple that his father, David, had wanted to build.\u00a0 But, Solomon allowed his heart to be turned from God to the gods (and idol worship) of his many \u201cstrange\u201d wives.\u00a0 When King Solomon turned his heart from God to idols, we see the nation decline from one of the greatest kingdoms ever to the promise of a divided kingdom; with David\u2019s house only ruling two tribes (Judah and Benjamin:\u00a0 see I Kings 11:30-35).<\/p>\n<p>Encourage your students to bring their Bibles and use them!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emphasis:\u00a0 <\/strong>Just as King Solomon was blessed and established as long as he walked in God\u2019s ways as his father, David, we must make a choice \u2013 obey God or our own desires in the flesh.\u00a0 When King Solomon \u201cloved\u201d many women, he allowed his heart to be turned from God.\u00a0 We cannot choose the things of the world over God.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Optional Worksheets to be downloaded:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lesson-38-Volume-1-Childrens-Worksheet-1.pdf\">Lesson 38 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Worksheet 1<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lesson-38-Volume-1-Childrens-Reinforcement-Worksheet-1.pdf\">Lesson 38 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Reinforcement Worksheet 1<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lesson-38-Volume-1-Childrens-Reinforcement-Worksheet-2.pdf\">Lesson 38 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Reinforcement Worksheet 2<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ideas for children:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stickers always work well with children. Often times I watch Wal-Mart or Oriental Trading Company for specials or deals on things I can use for crafts for Sunday School (i.e. foam sheets, Bible Story scene stickers, crowns, stick on jewels, construction paper, etc.).\u00a0 I keep a stash and when I need something, I go search in my stash!\u00a0 Pinterest always has great ideas!<\/p>\n<p>You could have a coloring sheet that goes with the lesson.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One idea for today\u2019s lesson:<\/strong>\u00a0 (See picture below).\u00a0 For today\u2019s lesson we traced footprints and wrote I Kings 2:3 on them.\u00a0 We then glued them to a piece of construction paper.\u00a0 The idea is to help them remember the importance of walking in God\u2019s ways and keeping His commandments.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mural idea:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Refer to the wall in your classroom that has become a mural.<\/p>\n<p>By now your class should be in a groove as to the direction and areas in which they need to focus and work on to improve their Christian lives.\u00a0 Use this knowledge to help you address specific areas in each lesson that your class can discuss and share as you add new things to your mural.\u00a0 Continue to watch as your class grows in their knowledge of not only God\u2019s Word, but areas in their lives that can be corrected, drawing them closer to the Lord.<\/p>\n<p>Have them each add anything else they may have brought to add to the wall.\u00a0 Encourage everyone to participate.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lesson-12.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-488\" src=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lesson-12-300x255.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"255\" srcset=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lesson-12-300x255.jpg 300w, http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lesson-12-768x654.jpg 768w, http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lesson-12-1024x872.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Key Verse \u201cNo man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.
