{"id":461,"date":"2019-01-14T06:54:06","date_gmt":"2019-01-14T12:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/?p=461"},"modified":"2019-08-18T19:08:41","modified_gmt":"2019-08-19T00:08:41","slug":"lesson-35-ii-samuel-1-5-david-crowned-as-king","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/14\/lesson-35-ii-samuel-1-5-david-crowned-as-king\/","title":{"rendered":"Lesson 9 (Lesson 35):  II Samuel 1-5:  David Crowned as King"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Key Verse<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe secret of the LORD <em>is<\/em> with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.\u201d \u00a0<strong>Psalms 25:14 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Read the Key Verse with your class.\u00a0 Help them understand the verse using the following definitions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>secret:<\/strong>\u00a0 Intimacy, conversation, consultation<\/p>\n<p><strong>fear:<\/strong>\u00a0 reverently fear<\/p>\n<p><strong>covenant:<\/strong>\u00a0 a pledge; a contract with promises of blessing for obedience, a curse for disobedience<\/p>\n<p>Today we will see the \u201csecret\u201d God had made with David many years earlier (that he would be king of Israel) come to pass.\u00a0 We also notice that David\u2019s relationship with God was one of reverential fear.\u00a0 We see God show David that He will continue fulfilling His covenant with His people by establishing David as king.\u00a0 This was pivotal in ushering in Jesus, the King of Kings (I Timothy 6:14-15).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary:<\/strong>\u00a0 Remember that we saw Saul became the first king of Israel, but had the kingdom removed from him and his family, forever, because of his disobedience to God\u2019s words.\u00a0 I Samuel 15:23:\u00a0 \u201cFor rebellion <em>is as<\/em> the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness <em>is as<\/em> iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from <em>being<\/em> king.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0I Samuel closed with King Saul\u2019s death in battle.\u00a0 We have now seen 3 of the 4 main characters in the books of Samuel have died.\u00a0 We begin the book of II Samuel continuing in the life of David.\u00a0 We open with David hearing the news, mourning, and Judah (one of the tribes of Israel \u2013 David\u2019s tribe) anointing him as their king. \u00a0The rest of the tribes accept Ishbosheth, Saul\u2019s son, as their king.\u00a0 We see the nation in a state of conflict and turmoil as their king has died, and they try to go on.\u00a0 Until they receive David, God\u2019s choice for their king, there is no peace in the land.\u00a0 Once David is established as king throughout Israel, they are prepared to move on as a nation.<\/p>\n<p>Encourage your students to bring their Bibles and use them!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emphasis:\u00a0 <\/strong>David faithfully sought God\u2019s will for his life.\u00a0 He knew God\u2019s word and obeyed it.\u00a0 He then saw God do just what He promised.\u00a0 We see David live Matthew 6:33 long before it was written:\u00a0 \u201cBut seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Optional Worksheets to be downloaded:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Lesson-35-Volume-1-Childrens-Worksheet-1.pdf\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Lesson-35-Volume-1-Childrens-Worksheet-1.pdf\">Lesson 35 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Worksheet 1<\/a><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Lesson-35-Volume-1-Childrens-Reinforcement-Worksheet.pdf\">Lesson 35 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Reinforcement Worksheet<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ideas for children:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stickers always work well with children.
