{"id":431,"date":"2018-12-10T07:33:22","date_gmt":"2018-12-10T13:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/?p=431"},"modified":"2019-08-18T19:07:24","modified_gmt":"2019-08-19T00:07:24","slug":"lesson-31-ruth-a-picture-of-redemption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/index.php\/2018\/12\/10\/lesson-31-ruth-a-picture-of-redemption\/","title":{"rendered":"Lesson 5 (Lesson 31):  Ruth:  A Picture of Redemption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Key Verse<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>As for<\/em> our redeemer, the LORD of hosts <em>is<\/em> his name, the Holy One of Israel.\u201d\u00a0 <strong>Isaiah 47:4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Read the Key Verse with your class.\u00a0 Ask your students if they know what a \u201credeemer\u201d is.<\/p>\n<p><strong>redeemer:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>basically means that of buying something back<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>After you help them understand the word \u201credeemer\u201d, explain to them that Jesus (the Lord of hosts) is our redeemer.\u00a0 He bought every one who belongs to him with his blood on the cross (I Peter 1:18-19:\u00a0 \u201c18. Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, <em>as<\/em> silver and gold, from your vain conversation <em>received<\/em> by tradition from your fathers; 19. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:\u201d and Ephesians 1:7:\u00a0 \u201cIn whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;\u201d)\u00a0 We have learned that we all deserve the punishment of death (because of sin.)\u00a0 Jesus paid the penalty, for those who believe, and died in their place which \u201cbought\u201d us back.\u00a0 We will see a picture of redemption (buying something back) in the book of Ruth today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary:<\/strong>\u00a0 During the book of Judges we saw how the nation as a whole had rejected God as their king.\u00a0 Last week we noticed a couple, Samson\u2019s parents, who heard from God and responded to God\u2019s call.\u00a0 We saw that God did what He had promised in their lives.\u00a0 The book of Ruth takes place during the time of Judges.\u00a0 This book, too, shows us there were people (although few) who still believed God and allowed Him to rule in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the turmoil and terrible times during the time of the Judges, Ruth is a breath of fresh air.\u00a0 The book of Ruth is a picture of redemption.\u00a0 She was a gentile (a Moabitess) who was living in a pagan land.\u00a0 She did not know the true God.\u00a0 When an Israelite family moved to Moab (because of a drought in Israel), she married into this family and heard of God.\u00a0 When her husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law died, she returned with her mother-in-law to the land of Israel.\u00a0 Her view is clearly stated in Ruth 1:16-17:\u00a0 \u201c16. And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, <em>or<\/em> to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people <em>shall be<\/em> my people, and thy God my God: 17. Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, <em>if ought<\/em> but death part thee and me.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 It was there, after being redeemed by a kinsman, that she forever became a part of Jesus\u2019 genealogy.\u00a0 She was the great-grandmother of King David.<\/p>\n<p>Encourage your students to bring their Bibles and use them!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emphasis:\u00a0 <\/strong>To know Jesus is our redeemer, and that He bought us, if we will believe in Him.\u00a0 Then, we should live as a light in this dark world so others can know Him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Optional Worksheets to be downloaded:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Lesson-31-Volume-1-Childrens-Worksheet-1.pdf\">Lesson 31 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Worksheet 1<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Lesson-31-Volume-1-Reinforcement-Worksheet-1.pdf\">Lesson 31 &#8211; Volume 1 Reinforcement Worksheet 1<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Lesson-31-Volume-1-Reinforcement-Worksheet-2.pdf\">Lesson 31 &#8211; Volume 1 Reinforcement Worksheet 2<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ideas for children:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stickers always work well with children.
