{"id":423,"date":"2018-12-02T19:04:50","date_gmt":"2018-12-03T01:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/?p=423"},"modified":"2019-08-18T19:07:01","modified_gmt":"2019-08-19T00:07:01","slug":"lesson-30-judges-13-21-the-tragedy-of-no-king","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/index.php\/2018\/12\/02\/lesson-30-judges-13-21-the-tragedy-of-no-king\/","title":{"rendered":"Lesson 4 (Lesson 30):  Judges 13-21:  The Tragedy of No King"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Key Verse<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYe adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.\u201d\u00a0 <strong>James 4:4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Read the Key Verse with your class.\u00a0 Help your students understand the verse.\u00a0 Use the following meanings of the words from the memory verse to help you explain the gravity of this verse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>adulterers and adulteresses:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>one who is faithless toward God<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>friendship:\u00a0 <\/strong><em>causing the interests of the world to become your interests<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>enmity:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>enemy<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>friend:<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>loved, befriended, kind<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>world:<\/strong> <em>specifically the wealth and enjoyments of this world, this life\u2019s goods<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Keep this verse and the meaning of it in mind as we look at the last part of the book of Judges.\u00a0 This was the root of the problem \u2013 they chose friendship with the world (and the things of the world) over a relationship with God, thereby becoming God\u2019s enemy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary:<\/strong>\u00a0 Remember that the time of the Judges was a sad time in Israel\u2019s history.\u00a0 The dominant theme within the book of Judges \u2013 21:25 \u201cIn those days <em>there was<\/em> no king in Israel: every man did <em>that which was<\/em> right in his own eyes.\u201d\u00a0 Notice that it doesn\u2019t say they did wrong, they <em>thought<\/em> what they were doing was right.\u00a0 Although it didn\u2019t appear wrong to them, it was wrong in God\u2019s eyes.\u00a0 They did not obey the commands God had given them.\u00a0 We see that the Israelites had rejected God as their king.\u00a0 They chose to be friends with the enemy nations.\u00a0 They also chose to continually turn to the enemy\u2019s idol worship.\u00a0 We see how this made them God\u2019s enemy, but we also see that God never left His people.<\/p>\n<p>We saw last week they had begun a vicious cycle:\u00a0 the people forsook God, God allowed the enemy to oppress the people, the people cried out to God, and God sent a deliverer (a judge) to end the oppression.\u00a0 This cycle continued through the rest of Judges.<\/p>\n<p>Encourage your students to bring their Bibles and use them!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emphasis:\u00a0 <\/strong>The people in Judges had become like the people who lived in Canaan land, the people they did not completely remove from the land.\u00a0 When they became like them, their hearts were turned from God.\u00a0 As Christians, we cannot be a friend of the world and God.\u00a0 We must choose whether God is more important to us, or if it is the things of the world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Optional Worksheets to be downloaded:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Lesson-30-Volume-1-Childrens-Worksheet-1.pdf\">Lesson 30 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Worksheet 1<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Lesson-30-Volume-1-Childrens-Reinforcement-Worksheet-1.pdf\">Lesson 30 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Reinforcement Worksheet 1<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Lesson-30-Volume-1-Reinforcement-Worksheet-2.pdf\"><strong>Lesson 30 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Reinforcement Worksheet 2<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ideas for children:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stickers always work well with children.
