{"id":287,"date":"2018-08-06T07:20:02","date_gmt":"2018-08-06T12:20:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/?p=287"},"modified":"2019-08-18T18:56:19","modified_gmt":"2019-08-18T23:56:19","slug":"lesson-13-how-jesus-relates-to-the-old-testament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/index.php\/2018\/08\/06\/lesson-13-how-jesus-relates-to-the-old-testament\/","title":{"rendered":"Lesson 13:  How Jesus Relates to the Old Testament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Jesus in the Old Testament:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Verse<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThink not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.\u201d <strong>Matthew 5:17<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Understand the key verse with the following:\u00a0 <strong>fulfill<\/strong> <em>means to fill out; complete or made them perfect; to accomplish an end<\/em>.\u00a0 Jesus came to complete the promise God made to Adam and Eve (and all of mankind) in the garden after they sinned.\u00a0 So, when Jesus came he did not <em>take away <\/em>the importance of the Old Testament law and prophets, instead he fulfilled the words spoken and preached for he accomplished what God required of Him. That allowed him to be the perfect sacrifice to appease the wrath of a just and righteous God.<\/p>\n<p>In this lesson we will look at verses from of the Old Testament that were prophecies of Jesus that He fulfilled.\u00a0 We cannot cover all of the verses listed in the Old Testament in one lesson\u2019s time.\u00a0 We will only go over one verse for each of the 5 divisions we have been learning about this quarter.\u00a0 We will eventually try to cover many of them.<\/p>\n<p>We will also look at a great plot against Paul to kill him because he lived as a Christian, preaching Jesus to the lost.\u00a0 Paul, the apostle, used this in his defense before Festus:\u00a0 <strong>Acts 24:14:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cBut this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He believed all things which are written in the law and the prophets.<\/p>\n<p>Do you?<\/p>\n<p>Our goal in this study is to let the Old Testament become much more to us than a bunch of \u201cstories\u201d abut people who lived a long time ago.\u00a0 We will search and find out why these people wanted to obey God and how they knew He would one day send Jesus.\u00a0 These \u201cstories\u201d will be an encouragement to us that God is with us and takes care of His people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Optional Worksheets to be downloaded:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Lesson-13-Volume-1-Childrens-Worksheet-1.pdf\">Lesson 13 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Worksheet 1<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Lesson-13-Volume-1-Childrens-Reinforcement-Worksheet.pdf\">Lesson 13 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Reinforcement Worksheet<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ideas for children:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In any lesson, you may want to work on your coloring timeline \u2013 especially when it relates to the lesson.<\/p>\n<p>Display the poster of the books of the Old Testament (may be downloaded from lesson 4 blog).\u00a0 Remind your students that the Old Testament is all to remind the people to look forward to the coming of Jesus.\u00a0 You may find a coloring picture that fits today\u2019s lesson.\u00a0 There are many free coloring sheets online.\u00a0 Just type in a favorite and search away!<\/p>\n<p>Give each of them a small blank book (or make foam journal, or staple blank pages inside a construction paper cover) and let them add stickers to remind them of Jesus. Have them draw Bible stories from the Old Testament inside as you have time.\u00a0 Remind them that the Old Testament is all to remind the people of Jesus.
