{"id":208,"date":"2018-06-08T18:38:39","date_gmt":"2018-06-08T23:38:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/?p=208"},"modified":"2019-08-18T18:54:46","modified_gmt":"2019-08-18T23:54:46","slug":"lesson-5-the-five-books-of-the-law-genesis-deuteronomy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/index.php\/2018\/06\/08\/lesson-5-the-five-books-of-the-law-genesis-deuteronomy\/","title":{"rendered":"Lesson 5:   The Five Books of the Law: Genesis \u2013 Deuteronomy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Key Verse<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut his delight <em>is<\/em> in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.\u201d <strong>Psalm 1:2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After reading this verse, think of some laws or rules we are expected to obey.\u00a0 Should we break the law?\u00a0 What happens if we do?\u00a0 Think about why it is important to have laws.\u00a0 Understand God has laws.\u00a0 His laws are the most important, and we are to obey them.\u00a0 Help them understand the memory verse.\u00a0 Remind your students that obedience is very important to God as we see throughout His Word.\u00a0 When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they were disciplined and cast from the Garden of Eden.\u00a0 Take a few minutes to think of some examples in the bible where people disobeyed God\u2019s commands and were disciplined, or examples of people obeying God\u2019s commands and Him blessing.<\/p>\n<p>In this lesson we begin to consider God\u2019s Law, and the importance of obedience to God\u2019s Word.<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>The word Pentateuch means \u201cfive books.\u201d\u00a0 The first 5 books of the Old Testament are also referred to as \u201cthe Law.\u201d\u00a0 Moses recorded these books.\u00a0 Within these books, we find the first 2500 years of history.\u00a0 God\u2019s laws are important.\u00a0 God demanded obedience from his people.\u00a0 By knowing and understanding God\u2019s commands to His people, we are better able to live as Christians.<\/p>\n<p>Optional Worksheets to be downloaded:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Lesson-5-Volume-1-Childrens-Worksheet-1.pdf\">Lesson 5 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Worksheet 1<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Lesson-5-Volume-1-Childrens-Reinforcement-Worksheet.pdf\">Lesson 5 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Reinforcement Worksheet<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ideas for children:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In any lesson, you may want to work on your coloring timeline \u2013 especially when it relates to the lesson.<\/li>\n<li>Display the poster of the books of the Old Testament (may be downloaded from lesson 4 blog). Review the books of The Law (showing them on the poster).\u00a0 You may have them draw a picture of their favorite story from the books of The Law.\u00a0 Review the 3&#215;5 cards if you made them, practicing the divisions.\u00a0 Focus on putting the books of The Law in order for today\u2019s lesson.<\/li>\n<li>Review last week using their hands of the five divisions of the Old Testament if you made them.\u00a0 Emphasize that the thumb was for the first division.\u00a0 Today, for Genesis, begin with the thumb.\u00a0 Hold up your thumb and say, \u201cFor Genesis, there are 4 Main Events to remember.\u201d\u00a0 As you say them, hold up a different finger for each one until all of your fingers are extended when you finish.\u00a0 They are:\u00a0 The Creation, The Fall, The Flood, and The Tower of Babel.\u00a0 When you finish, repeat the process for the 4 Main People:\u00a0 Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>For Exodus, use both hands to remember:\u00a0 10 Plagues, and 10 Commandments.<\/li>\n<li>For Leviticus, remind them that God created them and wants them to be His special people.\u00a0 In Leviticus, God teaches his people to live as special people belonging to God.<\/li>\n<li>For Numbers, God\u2019s people are counted 2 times (hold up two fingers.)\u00a0 Also, there were 12 spies sent into the Promised Land.\u00a0 10 said no, 2 said yes (that they should obey God and could conquer the land.)<\/li>\n<li>For Deuteronomy, the last book in this division, Moses reminds the people they will be blessed if they obey God, and they will be cursed if they do <strong><u>not<\/u><\/strong> obey God.\u00a0 Moses died at the end of this book and Joshua (one of the 2 spies that believed they could conquer the land) was appointed their new leader.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>You could also find a coloring sheet of one of the events you discussed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mural idea:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Refer to the wall in your classroom that has become a mural.\u00a0 For this week, have them each add the picture, news article, poem they have written, picture they may have drawn, etc. of something they believe is relevant to the lessons we have been studying.\u00a0 Encourage everyone to participate.\u00a0 Watch as it grows weekly, as they express what God is revealing to them through our study of how the Bible fits into His plan to help us become more like Him.<\/p>\n<p>Today, have them decorate another puzzle piece (may be downloaded from Lesson 3 blog) with some of God\u2019s \u201claws\u201d they should obey.\u00a0 Have them come up with them on their own so they are not all the same.\u00a0 After they have finished, have them share what they wrote on their puzzle piece as they add it to your wall.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Bible-Bookshelf-with-Hands.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-211\" src=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Bible-Bookshelf-with-Hands-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"244\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Bible-Bookshelf-with-Hands-300x240.jpg 300w, http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Bible-Bookshelf-with-Hands-768x614.jpg 768w, http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Bible-Bookshelf-with-Hands-1024x819.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 244px) 100vw, 244px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Key Verse \u201cBut his delight is in the law of the LORD;
