{"id":192,"date":"2018-06-04T07:51:24","date_gmt":"2018-06-04T12:51:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/?p=192"},"modified":"2019-08-18T18:54:34","modified_gmt":"2019-08-18T23:54:34","slug":"lesson-4-the-39-old-testament-books-5-divisions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/index.php\/2018\/06\/04\/lesson-4-the-39-old-testament-books-5-divisions\/","title":{"rendered":"Lesson 4:  The 39 Old Testament Books:  5 Divisions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Key Verse:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein &#8230;\u201d <strong>Joshua 1:8\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lesson Summary:<\/strong>\u00a0 Understand that <strong>meditate <\/strong>in the verse means: \u00a0<em>To dwell on any thing in thought; to contemplate; to study; to turn or revolve any subject in the mind<\/em>.\u00a0 For the next few lessons, we will \u201cmeditate\u201d on how the Bible fits together.\u00a0 Understand that by learning how God\u2019s Word fits together, it will make it much easier for us to \u201cobserve to do according to all that is written therein\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In this lesson, we are going to begin learning how the Old Testament is divided into sections.\u00a0 These divisions will help us understand how the Bible fits together.\u00a0 It will make it easier for us to find our favorite Bible stories, verses, and help us grow to become better Christians.\u00a0 Begin to understand how simply the Bible is laid out for us to understand how it fits together.\u00a0 This cannot be learned in one lesson.\u00a0 This is just an overview of what we will be learning in the lessons to come.\u00a0 Become familiar with the basic divisions of the Bible by using your Bible.\u00a0 It will help to begin to memorize the books of the Old Testament.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Ideas for crafts or activities for children:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Display the poster of the books of the Old Testament and One Page Old Testament Overview. Worksheet 1<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Lesson-4-Volume-1-Childrens-Reinforcement-Worksheet.pdf\"><strong>Lesson 4 &#8211; Volume 1 Children&#8217;s Reinforcement Worksheet<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One could also make a set of 3 x 5 cards \u2013 a different color for each division \u2013 with the names of each Old Testament book.\u00a0 These could be used to practice putting the books in the correct order, or even help with memorization of the 39 Old Testament books.<\/p>\n<p>Younger children:\u00a0 try teaching them the five divisions of the Old Testament by using their hands.\u00a0 Have them trace their hand on a piece of paper.\u00a0 Carefully write the 5 divisions of the Old Testament, one on each finger.\u00a0 Use the thumb to begin with and end with the pinky finger.\u00a0 After you finish, help them cut out their \u201chand\u201d and glue it to a piece of construction paper.\u00a0 Make one to keep in the room to hang on the wall by your Old Testament Bookshelf.<\/p>\n<p>As you teach the lesson, use your fingers (and encourage them to hold up their hands to reinforce it with them.)\u00a0 Point to your thumb and mention \u201cLaw.\u201d\u00a0 As you do, point to the Old Testament Bookshelf to help them understand you are talking about these books in their Bibles.\u00a0 You can help them remember each division by briefly telling them (or having them tell you) a particular story they will be familiar with that is within that division:\u00a0 i.e.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u201cLaw\u201d \u2013 tell them God created the world, Noah\u2019s ark, and Moses and the 10 commandments are all found here.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHistory\u201d \u2013 tell them David and Goliath happens here<\/li>\n<li>\u201cPersonal\u201d \u2013 tell them many of the Jews songs were recorded here, tell of the 23<sup>rd<\/sup> Psalm, or about Job.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cMajor Prophets\u201d \u2013 tell them of Daniel and\/or his three friends: Shadrach Meshach, and Abednego.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cMinor Prophets\u201d \u2013 tell them of Jonah<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Mural suggestion for today:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For this lesson, have them decorate a large puzzle piece with some pertinent facts about themselves it would be important for others to know, i.e.:\u00a0 their favorite color, how many siblings they have, who their parents are, their favorite book, when they were saved, anything that tells all about them. <strong>Or<\/strong>, have them share how they would divide their personal life into divisions (write them on their puzzle piece).\u00a0\u00a0 Just as the books of the Bible are pieces of the Bible that tells us who Jesus is, let these puzzle pieces tell
