{"id":178,"date":"2018-05-28T18:58:15","date_gmt":"2018-05-28T23:58:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/?p=178"},"modified":"2019-08-18T18:54:00","modified_gmt":"2019-08-18T23:54:00","slug":"lesson-3-why-is-the-history-important","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/index.php\/2018\/05\/28\/lesson-3-why-is-the-history-important\/","title":{"rendered":"Lesson 3:  Why is the History Important?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Key Verse:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.\u201d\u00a0 <strong>1 Corinthians 10:11<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lesson Summary:\u00a0 <\/strong>After reading this verse, focus on the fact that God\u2019s Word was written for us to show us a picture of His plan.\u00a0 We are to learn from what is written in His Word.\u00a0 Each Bible \u201cstory\u201d we have learned through the years is just a piece of the \u201cpuzzle\u201d to complete the picture of God\u2019s Plan.\u00a0 History may appear boring, but we are going to show how fascinating, and especially important, it is in our lives.<\/p>\n<p>Because the history is so important, we should desire to know the history \u2013 just like Peter, Stephen, and Paul knew it.\u00a0 We are to understand that the history found in God\u2019s Word is there to help us better understand and know Jesus.\u00a0 As we look at this lesson, we begin to understand that God had a plan.\u00a0 In the Old Testament, men didn\u2019t fully understand what that plan was, but through faith they believed.\u00a0 In the New Testament, God\u2019s plan was revealed through His Son, Jesus.\u00a0 Men still didn\u2019t understand until Jesus died, resurrected and ascended into heaven.\u00a0 But once they understood, they could not keep silent.\u00a0 They shared what they learned with others so they could know of God\u2019s wonderful plan as well.<\/p>\n<p>In this lesson, we will learn as Peter preached the Old Testament history, and the response he received.\u00a0 Then we will remember Stephen as he preached the same history, and the very different response to his message.\u00a0 Finally, we will see Saul (later called Paul) who was transformed (believed in Jesus) after Stephen\u2019s preaching, and how he became a mighty preacher, and teacher, of the history revealing Jesus.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ideas for crafts or activities to do with children:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For an activity to prepare to discuss the lesson, have children begin working on the puzzle (ideally of a Bible Story) you have prepared for them to put together.\u00a0 (Preparation:\u00a0 Have a puzzle with chunks of it put together, yet with many loose pieces.\u00a0 Have reserved (in an envelope set aside) 7 important pieces \u2013 to leave the puzzle obviously incomplete.\u00a0 Focus on the fact that God\u2019s Word was written for us to show us a picture of His plan.\u00a0 We are to learn from what is written in His Word.\u00a0 Each Bible \u201cstory\u201d we have learned through the years is just a piece of the \u201cpuzzle\u201d to complete the picture of God\u2019s Plan.\u00a0 History may appear boring, but we are going to show how fascinating, and especially important, it is in our lives.\u00a0 Wait until after the lesson is discussed to do the following:<\/p>\n<p>Have the students reconsider the puzzle they worked on at the beginning of your time.\u00a0 Ask them if they enjoy doing a puzzle that doesn\u2019t have all of the pieces.\u00a0 Why not?\u00a0 Take out the missing pieces \u2013 7 of them.\u00a0 As you do, tell them that the puzzle could not be completed without the pieces.\u00a0 They could guess what the picture was, but wouldn\u2019t completely know without the final pieces.\u00a0 Throughout history, people could try to understand what God was showing them.\u00a0 They trusted that He held all of the pieces, and would fit them in place, in His timing.\u00a0 As you begin fitting in the final 7 pieces of the puzzle, explain that it wasn\u2019t until:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Jesus\u2019 birth<\/li>\n<li>the life he lived pleasing to God<\/li>\n<li>His obedience<\/li>\n<li>death on the cross<\/li>\n<li>burial<\/li>\n<li>resurrection<\/li>\n<li>ascension into heaven<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Then the picture became clear.<\/p>\n<p><em>Mural suggestion for today:\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Have them share something that happened that they may not have understood at the time, but later understood why it happened.\u00a0 Have paper or a puzzle shape for them to write or draw their experience.<\/p>\n<p><em>Optional worksheets that can be downloaded:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biblicalpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Lesson-3-Volume-1-Childrens-Worksheet.pdf\">Lesson 3 &#8211;
